Costa Rica 2023, Day 16

Tulemar and White Water Rafting

We were up early, so we sat on the balcony and read before heading up the hill for breakfast. It was very quiet, but we could hear some Howler Monkeys in the distance.

We both tried something new for breakfast at TuleCafe. Both were great!

After breakfast we were picked up by Amigos Del Rio (friends of the river). A group of us were driven in a small bus up into the mountains for the start of our White Water Rafting adventure.

The gravel road was very bumpy with many sharp turns. It was challenging to get a picture of the river on a bouncy bus. The rainy season ended in December, so the water in the river was very low.

While some of the guides unloaded the rafts, the others gave us instructions and outfitted us with life jackets and a paddle.

For most of the tour the water was fairly calm. There were a few short sections with some rapids. It was challenging to take pictures while paddling.

We stopped once so we could relax and just float around in the water.

We had another break to have a drink and visit a waterfall. The size of this waterfall is more evident in the pictures below…

On our last stop we checked out an old suspension bridge.

The tour was fun, but I think it would be much better during or right after the rainy season, when the water is higher.

We finished the tour with lunch at Restaurante India. It was a small family run outdoor restaurant used for tour groups. The food was very good.

Back at Tulemar, we shared a steak for dinner, so we would have room for dessert. Both desserts were very good, but the cinnamon sticks were amazing.
