February 21

With our tours cancelled, we now had a couple of days to relax. We started the day with breakfast at one of the two cute tables for two that were tucked into the corners of the pool patio. We had several options to chose from – breakfast was included with the price of the room.

Breakfast always started with a fruit plate followed by our choice from the menu. Even though I’m not a big fruit fan when at home, I really enjoy the fruit in Costa Rica. It is always fresh and flavourful. I loved the Rancheros eggs, but in my opinion, you can’t go wrong when avocado is involved.

With our stomachs full, we packed our backpacks with water shoes and water. We headed down the steep hill towards the main road. We commented that it was going to be tougher going back up as the day got warmer. We had to walk briefly down the side of the main highway. There was a very small sign pointing to the beach. We turned down a small gravel road and it brought us out beside a small river which was flowing very slowly into the ocean.

The tide was out, so we were able to walk quite far out from the shoreline. We were hoping to be able to make our way out to the sand bar we had spotted from our resort. We discovered quite quickly that the beach wasn’t entirely made of sand. There was a large percentage of mud mixed in which made it very difficult to walk. My water shoes were sucked right off my feet a few times and I was sinking in up to my ankles.

We walked as far out as we could and then turned to walk parallel to the shore. Mike waded through the mud to explore the giant rocks.

This is a video of a small Stingray. We saw two of them swimming around in the shallow water. We wondered if they got trapped there when the tide went out or if they chose to stay to find food.

We spent quite a bit of time here wandering around and taking pictures. We only saw a handful of people. We really enjoy spending time in less touristy areas without the crowds.
This is a picture of our hotel taken from the beach. Our suite is the small building on the left peeking out from behind the tree.

We were getting hungry so we turned around and walked back along the beach. With only a 6 km walk this morning, it was a very restful day.

I sat and read briefly on the lounge chair by our room, but as soon as the sun was over the building’s roof it became too hot to sit without an umbrella.

Mike and I shared a burger and fries for lunch at one of the little tables by the steps to the pool. When we were finished, we sat in the lounge chairs there to read until the sun started to peek through the awning. We didn’t want to be in the sun so we moved over to the side of the pool under the umbrellas.

We read until 4 pm and then floated around in the pool and rested on the infinity ledge taking in the view. We reserved our favourite table for 5:30 pm for dinner and again enjoyed a picture perfect sunset.

For dinner we shared the beef tenderloin. I can’t eat a huge meal so sharing with Mike works well. We save room for dessert and save a lot of money. Tonight for dessert I had Strawberry Cheesecake and Mike had Tres Leche, which was a light cake with milk. Both were very good.
